Tesla Makes Its Vehicles Safer With Rapid Hazard Lights After Airbag Deployment

Tesla showcased a new safety feature for its vehicles, specifically the Model 3, Model Y, Model S, and Model X that are manufactured in 2020 or later. This new feature initiates a swift flashing of hazard lights following an airbag deployment, enhancing visibility.

What's new: Tesla North America announced the new feature in a post on X. The announcement was accompanied by a short video showing how quickly the hazards flash when airbags are deployed. Needless to say, the flashing hazard lights are extremely eye-catching.

Why it's important: The rapid flashing of a vehicle's hazard lights is designed to alert other drivers and emergency responders. This could also mitigate the risk of accidents or additional collisions with other vehicles on the road.

If drivers can see a vehicle with such rapid flashing lights, there is a good chance that they would not be reckless around it. This feature will be especially valuable during days when visibility is low, such as when fog is very thick.

Tesla's safety evolution: Similar to other Tesla features, the rapid hazard lights will be rolled out to qualified vehicles through a free over-the-air software update. This makes the addition of the new safety feature seamless and easy for owners.

Tesla's reputation for safety is well-established. The company's Autopilot and Full Self-Driving solutions are designed primarily as safety systems. Tesla's vehicles like the Model 3 and Model Y have also earned stellar safety ratings from agencies in the US and abroad.
