First-Ever Tesla Model S Donated to Petersen Automotive Museum

Early Tesla investor and SpaceX board member Steve Jurvetson has announced that he has donated his Tesla Model S P85 to the Petersen Automotive Museum. Jurvetson's Model S is quite special, as it was the first production Tesla vehicle to roll off the assembly line in 2012.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Jurvetson noted that he always knew that the Tesla Model S would end up in a museum one day. "I always knew the first Model S would end up in a museum, and I am happy to say it now resides in the Petersen Museum, along with the other early Teslas I donated to them," he wrote.

Apart from his Tesla Model S, Jurvetson has also donated his personal original Tesla Roadster to the museum. His Tesla Model X has also been donated. Jurvetson's donations, if any, emphasize his faith in the electric vehicle maker's products, as well as their place in automotive history.

Jurvetson has been a vocal advocate for Tesla vehicles and their significance in automotive history. Teslas, after all, have pulled the entire automotive segment kicking and screaming into the electric age.

With the original Tesla Roadster, the electric car maker proved that EVs could be desirable vehicles. The Model S proved that electric cars could be better than their combustion-powered counterparts in every metric. The Model 3 proved that EVs can find mainstream acceptance, and the Model Y all but secured Tesla's place as one of the world's most notable carmakers.

The Petersen Automotive Museum has featured numerous Tesla vehicles, including the Model S Plaid, the Cybertruck, Cyberquad, the new Tesla Roadster, and Model 3 and X prototypes, in the past. The museum also recently auctioned off a Tesla Cybertruck for $400,000. The proceeds from the auction will be used to support the museum's educational programs.
