Elon Musk Predicts Cybertruck Launch Will Be Biggest Product Launch of the Year

During an interview with Andrew Ross Sorkin for the New York Times 2023 Dealbook Summit on Wednesday, Tesla CEO Elon Musk predicted that the Cybertruck’s upcoming launch later today would be the biggest product launch of 2023.

Musk noted that regardless of how people perceive him, consumers will likely be drawn to the Cybertruck. “(The Tesla Cybertruck event) will be the biggest product launch of anything by far on Earth this year. Whether you hate me, like me or are indifferent, do you want the best car or not the best car?” Musk said.

Musk's Contributions To Sustainability

Musk’s comments about the Cybertruck follow the same theme as his other comments during the event. While speaking with Andrew Sorkin, Musk noted that while he consistently attracts negative media attention and controversy, it would be difficult to deny the fact that he has made a material contribution to sustainability through his work at Tesla.

“It would be fair to say, therefore, as a leader of the company, I've done more for the environment than everyone -- any single human on Earth,” Musk said.

Full Self-Driving (FSD) Predictions

Musk also touched upon Tesla's Full Self-Driving (FSD) beta program, highlighting its safety advancements. He compared the technology to human driving, noting that autonomous vehicles offer a significant reduction in potential accidents.

“First of all, humans are terrible drivers. So they will text and drive, drink and drive, they get into arguments. They do all sorts of things in cars that they should not do. So it’s actually remarkable that there are not more deaths than there are. What we’ll find with computer driving is, I think, probably an order of magnitude reduction in deaths. The self driving thing is something I’ve been optimistic about. We’ve certainly made a lot of progress.

“If anybody has tried the has been using the sort of Full Self Driving Beta, the progress every year has been substantial. It’s really not the point where in most places, it’ll take you from one place to another with no interventions. And the data is unequivocal that that supervised, Full Self-Driving is somewhere around four times safer. Maybe more than than just be human driving by by themselves. So I can certainly see it coming,” Musk said.
